DIY | Tree Slice Trivet – Natural Heat-Resistant Beauty

A simple, elegant way to bring nature into your kitchen with handcrafted wooden design.

🪵Materials Needed:

  • 4 natural wood slices (approx. same size, 8–10cm diameter)
  • Jute twine or natural fiber rope
  • Scissors
  • Optional: food-safe wood oil or beeswax finish
  • Optional: small amount of wood glue

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

This DIY project uses organic wood materials to create a rustic kitchen accessory that is both beautiful and practical – a perfect match for anyone who loves handmade kitchenware and natural home decor.

Step 1: Prepare the Wood Slices

Start by choosing four natural wood slices that are roughly the same size and thickness. Make sure each slice is clean, dry, and shows visible wood grain and growth rings, which give the trivet its natural charm.
Gently wipe off dust and, if needed, sand the top surface for a smoother finish. Keeping the bark edge intact will enhance the organic look and match perfectly with rustic home styling.

Step 2: Arrange and Tie with Jute Twine

Place the four slices on a flat surface in a square layout, with edges closely touching. Using jute twine, start wrapping the slices together by tying horizontally and then vertically, forming a cross that binds the slices tightly.
This method gives structure and adds a beautiful handmade texture. Make sure the twine is snug and evenly placed. You can knot the twine at the bottom or create a small decorative knot on top.
For extra durability, feel free to use a little wood glue between the slices before tying.

This step highlights the raw beauty of the materials while creating a functional wooden trivet that feels both earthy and refined – a signature of eco-friendly kitchen design.

Step 3: Apply a Food-Safe Finish

To protect your handcrafted trivet, apply a thin layer of food-safe wood oil or beeswax over the surface. This will enhance the natural wood tones and help resist moisture and heat.
Let it absorb for 30–60 minutes, then wipe off any excess. This finishing touch is essential for long-term use, especially in sustainable kitchen environments.

Step 4: Style and Enjoy

Your wooden trivet is now ready to use! Place it under hot pots, pans, or teapots to protect your table or counter in style. It adds a touch of artisan craftsmanship to any space and looks stunning as part of a natural table setting or rustic centerpiece.

This easy project also makes a wonderful handmade gift for housewarmings, holidays, or anyone who appreciates authentic woodcraft.

💡 Care Tip

Reapply food-safe oil every few months to preserve the wood’s natural beauty and resistance.
